I honestly never saw myself becoming a crunchy mom, but since becoming a foster mom to the cutest little people, I wanted and needed to make sure they were getting the best of the best. I may not have given birth to them, but while they are living in my home, I was determined to give them everything I would my own blood.
During the pandemic, it seemed like we were cleaning extra, wiping everything down with antibacterial wipes 24/7. During one of my many cleaning extravaganzas, I was wiping off toys with antibacterial wipes, and setting them aside on the counter. My kids, little climbers that they are, climbed up, and took a toys that were still wet. And what do you think they did with them? Right in the mouth. I couldn't believe I let them put a toy, wet with those toxic chemicals, in their mouth. Looking back on that now, seems silly to think that whether it is wet or dry makes a difference. The fact is, the toxins don't go away when it dries. They are still there, on the surface of whatever you are cleaning.
When this happened, I immediately started looking for a household cleaner that worked, but was safe for my kids to be around, and let's face it, if they put it in their mouth, I wouldn't be calling poison control. From there, I found a few cleaners that said "green" and "natural" so I bought them, only to find out soon after that they were in fact greenwashing me.
Once I discovered this, I dug deeper, and kept coming back to Young Living. I was a little turned off that it was a network marketing company at first, but the more and more reading I did, the more I knew we needed to try it. Their Seed to Seal Promise is more stringent that the USDA guidelines, and that gives me peace of mind. You cannot put a price tag on that.
During my search, I also kept finding articles about how terrible candles are for you. That they are the new secondhand smoke. So when I went to buy my thieves household cleaner, I decided to splurge and get a starter bundle with 12 essential oils as well. I told Ryan that I was not selling these products. I just wanted a safe cleaner, and to make our house smell good. When my order arrived, I immediately set up the diffuser and mixed up a bottle of cleaner and I haven't looked back since.
I started talking to my friends and family about these amazing products, as you do when you find something you love and cannot stop talking about. A few asked me for my link, and I thought, "Hey, why not?" Those first few months, I made a little bit of money. Then a few more people asked for my link, and a few more. And my paycheck kept getting bigger and bigger. Ryan was skeptical at first, especially because I told him I wasn't selling planning on selling, but he loves the products just as much as I do. He sees that not only are these products actually helping us, but they are also bringing us in a little extra money every month. Who doesn't want that?
That was 18 months ago, and since then I have switched out all of our household cleaners for thieves, all candles for diffusers, our laundry detergent, shampoo, body wash, body lotion, deodorant, supplements, and so much more for nontoxic products. I've learned so much over the last year and a half, and I have met some of the most incredible women along the way. Women that are so supportive of one another, not just in the business of Young Living, but in every facet of life. I know that I could call, text, dm any one of them, and they would be a caring friend who would listen to me vent, offer advice, and be a friend that I think as adults, it is so hard to find. (love you girls!)
Young Living is my easy button. There are other products out there that are actually clean, free from fragrance and other nasties. Young Living is not the only answer, but it makes my life easier knowing that I have a one stop shop for clean, natural products that are safe for my family. And the additional money that I earn for my family is icing on the cake!
